digitalKnowledge Essentials - Issue 2

Many of our clients are facing the same fundamental challenge:  how to leverage their sales and operational data, along with existing technology investments, to create useful business knowledge and certainty that can be used to drive informed business decisions.

This month’s issue of Essentials highlights a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company that was struggling with these issues and partnered with digitalKnowledge to develop a comprehensive reporting solution that provides division leaders with first time visibility into the performance of its brand team's marketing efforts.

Additional topics in this issue include a recent partnership with iWay Software as well as our monthly digitalKnowledge Byte.

Thank you for your time and support. We hope you will find this edition of Essentials both helpful and insightful.  We appreciate your interest and feedback and look forward to sharing our thoughts and solutions with you in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Curt Sellke
President, digitalKnowledge

Providing First-Time Visibility into Marketing and Financial Data

Client: Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company which engages in the discovery, development, manufacture, and worldwide sale of leading pharmaceutical products.

Challenge: One of the company’s therapeutic divisions recently implemented an application which allowed brand teams to manage and track marketing tactics across its portfolio of products. However, the system did not have baseline reporting functionality which caused division leaders to lack certainty around marketing campaign expenditures and how those dollars measured against budgetary numbers and campaign results.

Solution: digitalKnowledge designed and implemented a complete reporting solution using the BusinessObjects™ suite of tools. The final solution involved the modification of an existing BusinessObjects universe to support the newly defined marketing and finance report requirements which integrated data from two disparate source systems as well as a file containing financial data from the company’s ERP system. The team also designed, tested, and migrated fifteen end-user reports which met all internal compliance and functionality requirements.

Results: Through the implementation of the universe and reports, the division now has visibility into the performance of its marketing efforts for the first time which has enhanced their level of certainty surrounding campaign performance and provided stakeholders with the fundamental information needed to run their division more effectively.

A Focus on Giving Back

digitalKnowledge was founded on a principle of giving more than we receive and leaving more than we take, and it is upon that foundation that we volunteer our time and skills, as well as commit a percentage of after-tax profits, to benefit local and national groups.

Each year we are reminded of the importance of being good corporate citizens and the impact that our support can have on our communities. At present, digitalKnowledge and its extended family have supported two organizations that truly embody the spirit of giving back to our local Indiana communities: Assistance League® of Indianapolis and the Indiana Affiliate of Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership. digitalKnowledge is proud to have been able to support these organizations through monetary contributions as well as volunteering our time and talents.

To further our charitable commitments, digitalKnowledge has also created a yearly donation program for an invited group of clients where a $100 contribution is made to the organization of their choice. This program, now in its second year, has resulted in donations to the following groups: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Techpoint Foundation, First Book, American Cancer Society, Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Riley Hospital for Children, Episcopal Relief & Development Fund, and the National AIDS Foundation.

digitalKnowledge Byte

Keep it all together.

Ever find yourself juggling a report and a thread of a dozen emails related to that report? We have all seen the flurry of email conversations that a new set of Business Intelligence (BI) reports can generate, but what you may not realize is that the InfoView functionality found in BusinessObjects™ XI can help manage those important discussions.

InfoView provides the ability to attach a discussion thread to a report that has been executed in a public folder. While viewing the report, simply expand the discussions pane on the bottom of the application window and create a new post. Every user with access to that report can then view both the information the report has to offer along with other users’ interpretations and opinions.

This can be a very useful tool for facilitating conversations between management and a target audience. By attaching conversations to the report you ensure that everyone is speaking to the same data and that no one is accidentally left out of the loop.
