digitalKnowledge Essentials - Issue 1

Welcome to the inaugural issue of digitalKnowledge Essentials!

We are excited to publish the first edition of our monthly e-newsletter intended to keep our network of clients and contacts throughout the mid-west apprised of recent corporate accomplishments as well as highlight our insight on industry topics in the areas of business intelligence (BI), customer relationship management (CRM), knowledge management (KM), and next generation web solutions.

This month’s issue focuses on several BI topics including current partnership news and a recent reporting solution developed for a local client who needed to extend standard and embedded reporting functionality in its business process and relationship management software.

Future issues of the digitalKnowledge Essentials will feature solution highlights, upcoming events, and our digitalKnowledge Byte which will provide insight on a new or emerging technology or industry trend.

We appreciate your interest and feedback and look forward to sharing our insight and solutions with you in the coming months.

Sincerely,

Curt Sellke
President, digitalKnowledge

Carmel Development Center Opens

To accommodate record growth in 2005, and further solidify its commitment to maintaining a work-life balance for its employees, digitalKnowledge officially opened its Carmel Development Center, located at 130 W. Carmel Drive. This new office has become the primary site for many development projects and has provided increased flexibility for teams engaged with Carmel-based clients.

“Our employees and culture are our most important assets,” said Curt Sellke, president of digitalKnowledge. “As we evaluated the range of office space options, the management team focused on finding a location that not only fit our unique culture but would also provide a location where teams could effectively work on client projects in an offsite environment.”

The office includes two conference areas as well as a hotel-like workspace concept for its consultants. In addition to its Carmel Development Center, digitalKnowledge continues to maintain its corporate offices downtown at 101 W. Ohio Street, Suite 2000, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

Enhancing Reporting Capabilities for Local Solutions Provider

To maintain and continue to grow its strong client base, Baker Hill knew it needed to enhance the reporting capabilities contained in the current version of Advisor™, its business process and relationship management software. digitalKnowledge partnered with Baker Hill to create the Advisor Reporting Framework which extends the standard and embedded reporting functionality to allow clients to define and build custom reports.

The Advisor Reporting Framework solution encompassed the development of a streamlined and simplified data structure, multiple ETL data movement routines, and a semantic layer to further hide the complexities of the database schema. The solution leverages a combination of SQL Server 2000, Data Transformation Services (an ETL data movement tool), and the BusinessObjects® XI Enterprise suite of tools including Crystal Reports® XI.

To deliver real competitive advantage, Business Intelligence (BI) applications need to integrate seamlessly into your overall application infrastructure. The newly released Microsoft SQL Server 2005 now provides a comprehensive BI platform for data integration, analysis, and reporting that transforms your data into actionable insight and enables you to make more informed business decisions by leveraging the power in your data.

Enhancements in three key areas (enterprise data management, developer productivity, and business intelligence) included in the latest release of SQL Server make this product the most trusted platform upon which to host your most mission-critical applications. Specific advancements include:

  • New data mining capabilities that allow decision makers to explore their data to discover underlying patterns and hidden trends around products, customers, and their market.

  • XML-based data connection protocol in SQL Server Analysis Services, called XMLA (Extensible Markup Language for Analysis), makes it easier to push BI applications built on SQL Server outside the firewall without risking the security or performance of enterprise data.

Our experienced consultants are prepared to help you develop and implement a complete BI strategy that is tightly aligned with your organization’s business objectives. Contact us for more information about managing your evolving BI needs with the SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence platform.
