Leader in Blood Management

They had a vision of creating a technology solution to turn their blood management methodology into a fail-proof technology solution for the healthcare industry. They partnered with digitalKnowledge to turn their visions into reality.  See how this partnership accomplished this...

Client

They are the leading provider of blood management products and solutions, partnering with the U.S. blood collection industry and forward thinking healthcare systems.  It is renowned for helping healthcare organization better track and manage the use of blood (a limited and expensive commodity) to increase the safety of patients and ultimately, the bottom-line of hospitals and healthcare organizations.

Challenge

Our client recognized the need to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of blood management systems (or lack thereof)  within healthcare organizations and hospitals.  With extensive medical knowledge, and the clinical experience of the executive team, they were able to craft an impressive blood management system for the healthcare industry, which significantly improved patient care while increasing the bottom-line for healthcare providers.  However, our client was not stopping there.  They had visions of creating a technology solution to turn their blood management methodology into a fail-proof technology solution for the healthcare industry.  The executive team turned to digitalKnowledge to transform their visions into reality.

Solution

We designed and built a Data Warehouse and OLAP Cube to improve the analytical capabilities. This allowed them to analyze and compare blood usage of each hospital against industry "norms" to identify those procedures that fell outside the "benchmark."  Using this information, they were able to then work with the hospitals to identify best practices and implement changes to reduce unnecessary blood utilization and provide significant cost savings.

Results

This solution has enabled healthcare providers to ensure best practices around the handling and distribution of blood, mitigate adverse events and the costs associated with them while ultimately saving the healthcare industry millions of dollars.  This is a truly innovative solution that has the potential to drastically change the way the healthcare industry handles the usage of blood.
