Client

AIT Laboratories provides the healthcare industry with unmatched analytical testing and research, specializing in pain management, forensics, clinical and pharmaceutical testing.  The laboratory has experienced exponential growth since its beginnings and has a long list of accolades for innovative excellence and outstanding achievements.

Challenge

As a fast growing company, it was not long before AIT's incoming information surpassed the information management systems in place.  Most of the company's key metrics, such as sales metrics, were being manually integrated between various systems.  As the company grew, this practice became tedious and inefficient, resulting in redundancies and a loss of productivity.

AIT needed a system that would aggregate and make sense of information from the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), the billing system, the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and a handful of other systems managed in Excel.

The company also wanted to provide more value to each customer by aggregating and analyzing a considerable amount of transaction-level data.  AIT needed to be able to harvest information in a way that would provide their clients with valuable insight into their own businesses.

Solution

After successfully completing a CRM solution for AIT Laboratories, digitalKnowledge was asked back to design, build, test and deploy a Business Intelligence (BI) solution that would integrate data from all the existing systems and provide executives with valuable insight into the business.  digitalKnowledge began the project with a comprehensive requirements gathering phase where solution architects personally met with individuals throughout AIT Laboratories' various departments.  With an intimate understanding of AIT, digitalKnowledge crafted and deployed a BI solution utilizing the SQL Server 2008 R2 Database, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services and SQL Server Reporting Services.

Results

With the new BI solution providing a "single version of the truth," the executives and decision makers throughout AIT are given insight into the business that has never been available.  For the first time the sales, marketing, billing and executive departments are seamlessly aligned.  The solution has allowed the inside sales resources to quickly respond to data requests from the sales reps, increasing their overall productivity.  The solution has allowed business users to access data and analyze past performance without the need for the IT department to gather the information into reports.  Custom compliance reports that used to take up to eight hours to create now take under a minute - an integral part of AIT's initiative to provide information tailored to each physician's office.  Additional geographical and physician demographic analysis has been included in the compliance reports ot better relay benchmarking data to the physicians utilizing AIT's services.

In addition, the solution provides groundbreaking insight into the trends of the healthcare industry, which AIT executives have used to enlighten doctors and administrators all over the country through various seminars.  In summary, this solution has allowed AIT to stay on the forefront of its industry by harvesting valuable data and providing it to the right people, at the right time and in the right format.
